What are the basic requirements needed in order to apply to law schools in the U.S.? First, a student must already have an undergraduate degree. A satisfactory grade point average is needed along with the Bachelor’s Degree to get into good law schools. Also, a student must also take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and obtain a satisfactory score. The LSAT is administered by the Law School Admission Council four times a year, usually in February, June, October and September.
Aside from the test, there are other factors that will determine your admission, such as recommendation letters, essays, questionnaires and other materials. There are some schools who consider family background and social status when it comes to assessing applicants.
Since law school takes a lot of time and determination in order for one to finish and to get that much-awaited license, there are may things to consider if you want to apply to law schools in the U.S. Here are some of the most sensible tips when it comes to law school admission.
1.Make sure that it is YOU who wants to go to law school. There are lots of students out there who got into law school not because THEY want to; it is more because their family and friends want them to, or think that they should. Succumbing to family and peer pressure is a sure way to guarantee that he or she will drop out or think of dropping out of law school before they finish it.
2.Be prepared to face the admissions committees. The committees are the ones who decide whether you deserve a slot in their institution. Remember that there are thousands of students out there who will stop at nothing to get admitted. If you are applying in a prestigious university, expect the competition to be cutthroat. Make sure that you have a great “story” to tell the admissions people. Normally, they would ask standard questions like “Why do you want to become a lawyer?” or “Why do you think you can become a lawyer?” This questions will require you to open up about your background and personality, so make sure that your story is a convincing one. You need to show them what sets you apart from other candidates, and how it makes you deserving to be in their institution.
3. Get solid and reputable references. Having great references and having them validate your application by extolling your many virtues can give your candidacy an immense push right inside the walls of Harvard. Of course, you should make them prepared and coach them on what they should say when the committees inquire about you.
